This little edition was made for the If Paradise Is Half As Nice project. It is based on a bigger sculpture I made during edition #13 in Norway, for which I covered 3 fire extinguishers in concrete.

What are the odds

A pile of stone looking cubes at the top of a mountain in Salangen, Norway.

‘What are the odds’ consists of a pile of wooden cubes, pretending to be made of different kind of stones. Following the tradition of many people who make piles of stones at the top of mountains, I wanted to add another pile. But instead of finding stones that were good to pile up, I imagined how it would be if I could find stones that had the shape of perfect cubes. Therefore, I made wooden cubes, which are covered with dust of different kind of stones, to make them pretend to be stones.

Physical fittings for a mental view

A nondescript game, consisting of 35 numbered, concrete cubes, spread out over the area of the ruins of an iron factory at Salangsverket Norway.

During If Paradise Is Half As Nice #13, which took place at the Salangen Biennale II, this work was one of my contributions to the presentation weekend. 35 concrete cubes, all with a number imprinted in them, were lying in a line to begin with. Most of them were later spread over the area of the old ruins of the old factory. Why they were places and what they seemed to point out stays ambiguous. The work challenges the viewer to come up with their own reasons, rules or meanings.

Measures for a long life

A sculptural work made during If Paradise Is Half As Nice #13, which took place at the Salangen Biennale II. The work was made after noticing the extreme measurements that were needed in order for us to work in the abandoned factory at Salangsverket. The work consisted of three old fire extinguishers, which are covered in a layer of concrete. While being turned in to stone and being preserved for ever, they are rendered useless at the same time.

Reading a poem to a landscape

A video work in which I read a famous Dutch poem to a Norwegian landscape.

During If Paradise Is Half As Nice #13, at the Salangen Biennale II in Norway, I made this video. The work displays me, reading a famous Dutch poem called ‘Herinnering aan Holland’ (Remembrance of Holland) by H. Marsman, to a Norwegian Landscape.

Means to play (In dust things meet)

The installation Means To Play by artist Ties Ten Bosch is set up in the exhibition space and invites visitors to a poetic view of seemingly familiar things. “Means To Play” is thus the 5th work in the series “In Dust Things Meet” by Ties Ten Bosch.

The artist writes about it:
“We see several objects, but stripped of their specific properties and reduced to a
Silhouette, an elementary form are reduced. Three spring rockers and a living room lamp in a snowy white landscape. We recognize the objects, but they are detached from their usual detached from their usual context. This creates a new story that will be different for each viewer will be different.”
Ties Ten Bosch (NL, 1977) lives and works in Berlin.

The exhibition is on view until May 15, 2023 at Kiosk 24,
Radewigerstraße 24, 32051 Herford.

It can be viewed 24 hours a day and in the dark it appears particularly impressively illuminated. I wish all visitors a wonderful experience with it.
