I don’t quit my daytime job

A solo show at Upominki Rotterdam resulted in ‘I don’t quit my daytime job’. The show presented the first works of the ‘Remains/Stolen Footage’-series. The title refers to the background of the materials used for the works which come from jobs I do to maintain my income.
The show was well visited and well received and was for me the first opportunity to show my new series of works to an audience. The works, made from paper, used to protect the floors at exhibitionspace Witte de With while painting the wall, need a clear, clean space when shown. Upominki was a perfect location to give this context for the works.
With this exhibition and these works I question the relation between my own practice and the institutes that I work for to earn my living. It researches the hierarchy within the artworld and institutes and exposes the gap between the artist showing at the institute and the artists working there installing the work.
Still needing the jobs to maintain my practice as an artist I try to use my time working also to work on my own work and let the side-jobs infiltrate in my own work.
