Trappen/Tribune/Tent

In 2009 I was invited by Tent. Rotterdam to make a work for their 10th anniversary. In order to celebrate this event I wanted to open up the exhibition space to the street by creating direct entrance through the windows of the building.
Tent is situated in an old school building at the Witte de Withstraat in Rotterdam. The ground floor of the building is about 50 cm above streetlevel, resulting in windows that are 2 meter above streetlevel. This means that the building has a closed and distant appearance for people in the street.
By making twelve stairs through the windows I wanted to open up the building as well as the art-world to the audience, while the art-world is a very closed community and not open enough to society.
By entering through the windows, the audience could skip the big entrance and front desk and step directly into the exhibitionspace.
